East Pond Creek Preserve is part of a 60-acre wetland complex along East Pond Creek in Bruce Township. This 20-acre preserve consists predominantly of several different wetland types, including tamarack swamp, rich conifer swamp, and fen. The rich conifer swamp is dominated by northern white cedar, an uncommon tree in southern Michigan, which makes the entire preserve strongly reminiscent of a northern forest. The tamarack tree that can also be found on the property is another significant wetland tree, and hardy enough that it can even be found making up parts of the arctic tree line.
